DESIGNING FUZZY-BASED SMART SYSTEM CONTROL FOR ANC WORMS BREEDING MEDIUM

Abstract

The cultivation of African Night Crawler (ANC) worms has great potential in the circular economy, particularly as agents for the bioconversion of organic waste into vermicompost and as an alternative protein-rich feed source for aquaculture. This study aims to design and implement an automation system using the Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) method for optimizing the environmental control of ANC worm cultivation. The system uses an Arduino MEGA as a microcontroller, integrated with a CWT Soil Sensor RS485 for measuring temperature, humidity, and pH, as well as a load cell sensor for monitoring changes in cultivation mass. The actuators used include heating elements, a fan cooler, and three pumps for acidic, neutral, and basic solutions. The system is also integrated with an LCD and RTC module for real-time monitoring of these environmental parameters. Test results over 10 days showed that the system successfully maintained an average temperature of 26.56°C, humidity of 65.99%, and pH of 6.69. The system's success in maintaining these parameters is further supported by a 14.14% increase in vermicompost mass and an earthworm growth rate (EGR) of 38 mg/worm/day, proving that the fuzzy Sugeno control method enhances the stability and productivity of vermiculture.
