ARTS INNOVATION OF MIXED-MEDIA PERFORMANCE ARTS TO ENHANCE AWARENESS AND PRESERVE THE LEGEND OF SONGKRAN, THE ORIGIN OF THAI SOCIETY IN A CONTEMPORARY CONTEXT

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) develop and evaluate the quality of a mixed-media performance art innovation about the legend of the origin of Songkran Day, 2) evaluate and compare the audience's perception of the legend of the origin of Songkran Day, and 3) measure the social impact of the developed innovation. The sample group consisted of 100 online viewers selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments included mixed-media performance art innovation (animation from paintings combined with traditional Thai storytelling and performance), an expert evaluation form, and pre- and post-viewing perception tests. Statistical analysis included the mean (M), standard deviation (S.D.), and t-test. The research findings revealed that the development and evaluation of the innovative mixed-media performance art using the 3P process and the 12 Principles of Animation showed an overall quality level of the highest (M, 4.68, S.D., 0.46). A comparison of perceptions regarding the legend of the origin of Songkran showed that the average scores after viewing the innovative mixed-media performance art in each aspect were significantly higher than before viewing (.05). Furthermore, the social impact and value of the innovative mixed-media performance art in creating awareness and perpetuating the legend of the origin of Songkran showed an overall average score of the highest (M, 4.72, S.D., 0.47).
