DEWI ANJANI THE MIDST OF THE GARBAGE: UNRAVELING THE DILEMMA OF CONSERVATION AND TOURISM IN MOUNT RINJANI
Abstract
This research examines the role of local wisdom values in the story of Dewi Anjani, which reflects the concept of Wetu Telu as the basis for conserving the Mount Rinjani area, an area experiencing ecosystem degradation. Through observation, interviews, and questionnaires in five villages around Rinjani (Sembalun, Pancor, Senaru, Bayan, and Bentek), the results of the study showed that although these noble values have great conservation potential, their implementation is still hampered by limited understanding of the community and climbers and weak enforcement of rules. The transformation of local wisdom values has been unable to form effective conservation behaviors due to a lack of practical knowledge and inadequate economic incentives. As a solution, this study proposes intelligent integration between tradition and modernity through the development of community-based ecotourism and sustainable livelihoods that empower local communities. This strategy is strengthened by the use of digital technology for education and monitoring, as well as an inclusive economic scheme that makes the community the main actor of conservation. Multi-stakeholder synergy and supportive policies are expected to create a balance between ecological preservation and sustainable improvement of community welfare.
