AIS-BASED VESSEL TRAFFIC ROUTE MODELING USING DBSCAN CLUSTERING: A CASE STUDY OF BALIKPAPAN-SAMARINDA WATERWAY IN SUPPORT OF NUSANTARA CAPITAL CITY DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The Development Of Indonesia's New Capital City, Nusantara (Ikn), In East Kalimantan Is Projected To Significantly Increase Maritime Traffic In The Balikpapan-Samarinda Waterway. This Study Addresses The Critical Need For Data-Driven Vessel Traffic Management By Analyzing Existing Traffic Conditions And Developing An Optimal Route Arrangement Model Using Automatic Identification System (Ais) Data And The Density-Based Spatial Clustering Of Applications With Noise (Dbscan) Algorithm. Analysis Of 1,021,859 Ais Records From 2,240 Vessels Revealed Complex Multi-Nodal Traffic Patterns With Significant Speed-Density Correlations, Indicating Congestion In High-Density Areas. The Optimized Dbscan Clustering (Ε = 0.050, Minpts = 20) Identified 11 Primary Route Clusters With A Silhouette Score Of 0.723 And Route Coherence Of 87.17%. The Resulting Hierarchical 3-Tier Route Model Provides A Comprehensive Framework For Traffic Segregation And Management. This Research Contributes To Maritime Informatics By Bridging The Gap Between Algorithmic Analysis And Practical Policy Implementation For Indonesian Maritime Authorities. The Paper Must Be No More Than 10 Pages And Placed On A4 Format (210 Mm × 297 Mm) Sheets, With Margins Of 30 Mm On All Sides.
